It might be Darwinism, but it seems more like an act of self-harm. If the companies who create the AI displace all the people who have generated the work scraped to train it, then the AI starts eating itself and we arrive at entropy and uselessness.

Also, with mass displacement big tech loses its customer base and therefore profit. Perhaps more importantly we lose ourselves. At some point we need to stop being so fixated on price / profit and turn our attention to understanding the value.

I see enormous potential for AI as part of our human value chain, but I think human obsolescence is too high a price to pay for this technology if the only goal is profit. That OpenAI, for example is changing from a non-profit to a for profit company is troubling.
